We have a licensing service that is internal to our org. The service runs in a 'virtual server' in a chroot enviornment. outside the chroot enviornment, the ioncube_encoder works fine. When we had version 5, i copied the license files, and encoder over into our chroot enviornment and everything worked fine. However, version 6 no longer works in the chroot enviornment but does outside of it (Where the lic. requests were generated). Everything is on the same server, so this should be legal. Is there a technical limitation to why this is not working?

Thanks

There is. Version 6 has a new feature to allow customers to unlicense their installation prior to a move to a different machine. The process creates a revoke file that confirms to us that the software was unlicensed, and that tells us which license to free. When we realised how often our customers were moving machines, we spent time adding this feature to make it easier for customers to move their installation without any query from us.

The system is designed to make it non-trivial to compromise by simply making a copy of an installation prior to unlicensing one install, or taking a backup and reinstalling the files to how they were before being unlicensed .This is why your second copy does not work.

Provided that you install and license from your chroot environment, the product will be usable both inside and outside of the chroot.

If you can send a short email to licenses@ioncube.com then we can pick this up there and should be able to get you setup in the chroot environment easily.
