Is it possible to place code within a php script that can detect if the script is encoded?

I would like force my scripts to terminate if they are on a live server and have not been encoded. We have multiple designers who are always uploading minor site updates and I want to be alerted if one of them accidentally overwrites the encoded scripts on a live server with unencoded scripts from our local development servers.

It is. There are a few API functions that can be used, but the most specific is

Code:
Bool ioncube_file_is_encoded()

Returns TRUE if the calling file is encoded and FALSE otherwise.

You could also check that the function exists to determine whether the Loader is available, which presumably it is, but would not be if you're using runtime install of the Loader and the developer had overwritten a top level script.
