Is there a timeline on version 10? If it's soon, I will wait to upgrade from v8 to v9.

It's well on its way but not imminent. I don't have any firm date though.

No hackers have had any success with version 9 yet, and this is largely because of Dynamic Keys. This is a new protection technique that we first conceived a few years ago, and after a lot of work, it finally made its way into version 9.

Unlike standard encoding, Dynamic Keys protects code with cryptographic strength encryption and without storing the decryption key anywhere. There was no point for protection tools using encryption previously because the keys are stored in the encoded files. We saw that the way forward would be not to store a key, and it's the absence of any key to be discovered that leads to a game changing improvement over prior techniques. Using Dynamic Keys is optional and you do have to do some work to leverage it, but it's totally worth it to get to grips with the approach.

Version 10 primarily adds PHP 7.1 syntax support and is working well in testing, but there is still some work to be done.

We're aiming for a release within the next week barring any remaining issues in test. Our QA process is extensive, and a couple of issues emerged in final testing that we felt should be addressed before release, and with those out of the way now, we're doing a freeze at the moment and going through the final release process again.

The rollout has begun and we're expecting v10 today barring any release issues. Some aspects of our website mechanics had to be updated for this release and took longer than anticipated, but it needed to be done and is thankfully out of the way now. The support plans don't cover updates because some customers like to upgrade but don't need support, and some want support but may not want, need or have an upgrade available during their support term. Upgrades are available at a discount however.

Good news.

Is the 7.1 support done via separate compiler or can one create an single application version which supports PHP 5.6, 7.0 and 7.1 (assuming the application uses 5.6 syntax)?

And another question. What is the minumum version of loader required to run applications compiled with v10 (again assuming the codebase is for older PHP version). The version 9 compiler reqired loader at least 5.x, what is the requirement for the v10?

The PHP bytecode tends to change at each new major version, so there's a new compiler in each case; PHP 7.2 for example adds eleven new opcodes to the engine. PHP 5.6 compiled code can run on PHP 7.0, but encoding for PHP 7.1 directly is required to run code on PHP 7.1. At this point we expect PHP 7.1 encoded files to run on PHP 7.2. The version 10 Loader is required to run PHP 7.1 encoded files, and can run files from earlier versions too.
